Fire survival cables are cables that are designed to continue to operate for a defined minimum period of time during a fire. They are also known in the North American market as circuit integrity cables, since these are used in circuits that must be able to maintain their integrity during a fire. Many manufacturers refer to these products as "fire resistant" cables. Traditionally, the main application for fire survival cables was in fire alarm systems, as in some countries it is a requirement that such cables must continue to operate for a specified period in the event of a fire. In addition to fire alarm systems, these types of cable may also be used in other safety-critical wiring circuits, such as those powering emergency lighting and sprinkler pumps. In today's business environment the secure backup of business critical systems in the event of an emergency is a pre-requisite. Relemac has introduced "low halogen low toxic cables" which are specially suited to operate in a fire risk situation.
- Solid/Stranded (ATC/ABC) Copper conductor, insulated with specially formulated PVC/TPE/XLPE to form a core. Cores laid up together or twisted to form a pair/triad depending upon the individual requirement. Such cores/pairs/triads after laying are coated with special Fire Resistant materials and overall sheathed with special PVC/TPE/LSZH.
- Shielding with Braiding/Aluminium mylar taping will be done overall or individually depending upon the requirement.
- Armouring provided depending upon requirement with a extruded inner special PVC/TPE sheath, and overall sheath of special PVC/TPE.
